There’s nothing quite like candlelight. Except, perhaps, sunshine.

Candles are a little like sunshine after dark. They soften a room, warm everything up and make an ordinary evening feel a touch more special. Dinner tastes better. Conversations linger. Even sitting on the couch feels more intentional.

Then there’s fragrance. A beautifully scented candle can transport you somewhere else entirely — a garden after rain, a late-night cocktail bar or a holiday you’re not quite ready to come home from.

That sense of escape is part of what makes candle making so satisfying. You’re not simply pouring wax into a jar. You’re choosing how you want a space, memory or moment to feel.

At Wick-Zen Candle Bar in Brunswick, we’ve taken candle making out of the craft room and given it a little neighbourhood-bar energy. Our candle making workshops are designed to feel relaxed, social and easy — even when you’ve never made a candle before.

We’ve already done the fiddly part, sourcing beautiful materials, testing fragrance combinations and curating a menu of scents that are easy to explore. You simply settle in, trust your nose and begin creating.

You’ll choose a vessel from our collection of reusable stemware and drinking-inspired pieces, then explore fragrance notes to create a scent that feels like you. It might be fresh and citrusy, deep and woody, floral, sweet or something completely unexpected.

We’ll guide you through the entire candle making process, from selecting your scent and measuring your fragrance to blending and pouring your candle. There’s no technical knowledge required and no pressure to get it “right”. Some of the best blends come from following your instincts.

Once your candle is poured, the hard work is done. While it begins to set, you can sit back with a glass of sparkling and something sweet.

Because, for us, a candle making workshop should be about more than learning a new skill. It should feel like time well spent — making something beautiful, sharing a table and stepping away from the noise for a while.

You’ll leave with a candle that’s completely your own, poured into a vessel designed to be cleaned, kept and enjoyed long after the final burn.
