Wick-edly smart: Keep your wick trimmed for safety

This Christmas, we’re giving away candle scissors because the holidays aren’t just about getting lit—they’re about keeping safe, too.

By now, you’ve probably heard the buzz about trimming your wick. But do you know why it matters?

Why you should trim your candle wick

  • Snip the risk: A trimmed wick means a steady flame, less over heating and smoke.

  • Longer life: Your candle lasts longer, and who doesn’t love more burn for their buck?

  • Fragrance boost: A clean wick gives you that swoon-worthy scent throw every time.

How to trim your wick like a pro

  • Before each burn, trim the wick to about 1/4".

  • Use scissors, wick trimmers, or even a tissue to snip off the charred bit. Easy.

Fire Safety 101

  • First burn is a big deal: Burn your candle for about two hours, or until the wax pools to the edges. This sets the "memory" for an even burn later.

  • Keep it safe: Never burn for more than four hours, avoid draughts and always keep an eye on your candle. Kids, pets, and unattended flames are a no-go.

  • Snip it before you light it: Keep that wick trimmed to 1/4" to avoid mushrooming and extend the candle's life.

  • Cool it down: Let the candle cool completely before touching or moving it—and between burns, too.
